August 2017 - For the Misread Emails (Thank You on the Way)
Thank You Official Music Video Release!!!
Dear August,
I'd like to thank you! The time spent in a recording studio near San Francisco singing into microphones that translated sound waves into grooves on giant spinning wheels of tape (yes TAPE) could not have gone better. Recording 15 of your original songs can be sort of like looking into the mirror for 24 hours straight - often a humbling no more happy chemicals left in the brain type experience. This time I left the studio giggling. Most of the songs were recorded live on the first take, and thanks to the stellar musicians who joined me, it just felt like making music. Thanks for rooting for us, I heard you! I'm itching to share the solo record, but these things take time, and there is exciting news RIGHT NOW...
Thank You, the much anticipated album from my band, Odell Fox, comes out September 12. Above is the sneak peak music video for the album's title track. Directed by Kendall Rock it features Austin legend, "Sparkle Joe" Riddell.
I've played many a living room and backyard since the last newsletter and I'd like to dedicate this month's musings to the wonderful enthusiastic sloppy handed folks who slipped through the mailing list cracks. The ones who wrote a lot of straight lines that could have been interpreted as 1's or L's, the ones who forgot the @website part, the beautiful fans who will never receive these emails because I misread their penmanship on that fateful night! I dedicate this email to them and promise to have a typing solution for the mailing list problem from now on!
Congrats to you all for your legibility.

Fox Recommends
Medicine Man by Odell Fox - download the single track from our new album!
Comatopia Music Festival - great music, and still has that small family feel. Plus otter pops. Keep it on the radar for your summer 2018.
Don't have enough folk music in your life??? - sit back, make some tea, and check out this groovy video featuring Justin Vernon, Damien Rice, Sam Amidon and others! I especially recommend Damien's performance of "The Professor."
PS. West Wind #2, a poem by Mary Oliver
You are young. So you know everything. You leap
into the boat and begin rowing. But listen to me.
Without fanfare, without embarrassment, without
any doubt, I talk directly to your soul. Listen to me.
Lift the oars from the water, let your arms rest, and
your heart, and heart’s little intelligence, and listen to
me. There is life without love. It is not worth a bent
penny, or a scuffed shoe. It is not worth the body of a
dead dog nine days unburied. When you hear, a mile
away and still out of sight, the churn of the water
as it begins to swirl and roil, fretting around the
sharp rocks – when you hear that unmistakable
pounding – when you feel the mist on your mouth
and sense ahead the embattlement, the long falls
plunging and steaming – then row, row for your life
toward it.
