April 2022: “ALICE” Announcement
Post originally published april 4, 2022
Alice is the first puzzle piece of my new record, “Good Luck Road,” out 7/1!
The song is a portrait of a small-town Wyoming sheriff who's tasked with the heart-breaking job of explaining a new protocol to combat school shootings (A.L.I.C.E.) to his local district.
Special thanks to the people of Dayton, WY for the heart, hospitality, and stories, and thanks to The Thumb Records – the grassroots fan-funded label that made this possible. Join Patreon & The Thumb Records.
And thank you for listening,
Jenner

Lyrics
Down at the station last week
A man from a University
Came to teach all the deputies
About Alice
Came to teach us all about Alice
Back in the days of Columbine
We taught schools to duck and hide
Kill the lights be quiet there’s a bad guy
But now we teach em all Alice
The data gave us Alice
I grew up here in Sheridan County district one
And we fielded nine on our football team but boy we could run
And it’s late September and school’s in full swing
There’s a chill in the air October's coming
I tell my boys down at the station don’t be dumb
If you pull over a truck this time a year best assume they’ve got a gun
It’s hunting season
In Wyoming
I remember I remember when we were boys and Dad would take us out before class
And we’d hold guns and laugh and shoot squirrels and dirt
And I never once thought that bullets were to hurt other people
We’d leave em unlocked in the high school parking lot all day
And my heart breaks
For Alice
My heart breaks for Alice
I woke up in a sweat at 2am
I dreamed district one had an incident
The bells were ringing and the phones blew up
And all of the neighbors came running with their guns
And I was stuck on a lead driving east on 14
And the mountains just rose and rose and I couldn’t break free
And they echoed with the foot falls and the bullets and the screams
And all I could do was pray
For Alice
For Alice
