Have you ever made a rubber band ball? Wrapping and twisting, wrapping and twisting, until it became a sphere. Thinking about all the games you might play. A ball to toss and chase and laugh and quibble and make up worlds and share some kind of belonging.
BUT because you made it to share, you wanted the ball to be great. And as much as you wrapped and twisted, it never looked like the other balls in the ball store. And so it stayed in the corner of your room.
Then one day you typed "define ball" into the internet dictionary, and it read: "a solid or hollow spherical or egg-shaped object that is kicked, thrown, or hit in a GAME." And you remembered the reason you made the ball way back when...
So you put the ball in your pocket, walked it to the park, and threw it up in the air. You watched it fly from your hand, felt vertigo, felt gravity, watched it bounce, watched someone chase it and smile, watched someone run away, realized the ball wasn't you, got excited about making more balls, remembered the joy of wrapping and twisting, threw the ball so high it became a tiny planet...
All that is to say: if you get a quiet moment to listen to the new album, "Planet I'm From," I hope it makes you feel something. And smile. Thanks for playing along.

Why "The Thumb?" A few days after completing “Planet I’m From,” my friend Geoff came over for a celebratory listen. The title track repeats the refrain, “Nobody’s smart and nobody’s dumb and the difference is the thumb, is the thumb, is the thumb…” After we were done listening Geoff asked, “Is the thumb, the thumb, the thumb, meant to sound like a heartbeat? And so, is the secret message that the difference is really the heart, or love?” I replied, “Woah! I LOVE that. And no it never crossed my mind. But yes, it’s now the secret message...” That’s one of my favorite things about songs – that they can and will mean something different to everyone. And so....THE THUMB RECORDS!
