March 2024: A Story from Chile
"Window Song" official video from our music and rafting trip on the Futaleufú river. Footage by the incredible Rayno Van Heerden. Edited by Stuart Elliott. Written in collaboration with Peter Fox.
In March, Jeremy and I spent two weeks in Chile on the Futaleufú River with Bio Bio Patagonia performing around campfires and sliding down that wondrous turquoise river (^pictured in the music video). The trip was above and beyond, and we hope to return next year (likely mid January). If you're interested in this trip, please let me know and I can add you to the notification list for sign ups.
A story from Chile:
On our travels home we took a taxi to the Santiago airport. The driver, Felipe, spoke English and asked us about our instruments, which led to a conversation about American Folk music, his love for Hank Williams, and how he grew up listening to the American country music show on the radio in Santiago every Sunday morning. We asked him if he played music and he said, "I play a little harmonic, like the Boss." And so of course I divulged my love of Bruce and we started "fan boy-ing" out. Felipe told us that of all the gifts his father ever gave him (a bicycle, life, etc), the best was a cassette box set of Springsteen's "Live 1975-1985" album. He recited a story about how Bruce was almost drafted to Vietnam and I realized that he was quoting the introduction to "The River" from the 75-85' live album version. I started singing the first line and he joined me singing at the top of his lungs as we pulled in to departures. He slowed to a crawl so we could get to the chorus: "That night we went down to the river, and into the river we'd dive." Felipe dropped us at the curb and we embraced. In a trip full of whitewater and bonfire peaks, that moment has not left me :)
