I like to think the heart reserves a special compartment for those spaces where we see our first great concerts. The shiny theaters, or smokey clubs, or big grassy fields where we first get that taste of losing ourselves. Blinking out into the street after the show, smiling at a bunch of used-to-be strangers.

Growing up in the Bay Area, one of those venues for me was the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. A hallowed hall home to many of my musical heroes. It's been a dream of mine to headline the Freight, and after nearly a decade of knocking on their door and peppering them with booking emails, they decided to give us a shot on a Tuesday night in January :)

It's one of those deals in which the venue is clearly not betting on you being able to fill the place, but nonetheless saying, "show us what you can do."

And indeed it makes my stomach turn to see the 450 person capacity, but I feel like this community has been ready to rally for a long time. What do you think? Can we shock the Freight and sell out on a Tuesday in January? Or the Tower in Bend in April? Or the Tractor Tavern in Seattle in December?

Yours in optimism,

Jenner

Backpacker's Pantry Pad Thai– For the last few weeks Natalie and I were able to take a non-music tour related vacation with backpacks in Olympic National park. There were many highs, but few rival eating Backpacker Pantry's finest as the sun sank into the pacific ocean.

More on the music and rafting adventure in Chile– Jeremy Elliott and I will join our friends at Bio Bio expeditions for a week of adventuring from their beautiful & comfy riverside camp — campfire music, epic river time, yoga, hot tubs, hiking, biking, kayaking, wine tasting, delicious meals, stories, laughs, espresso, (even fishing)!
